That’s exactly what this week calls for, which requires a very specific kind of song and Prefab Sprout’s The King of Rock ‘N’ Roll is the perfect match.
Romanticising your life like it’s a John Hughes film, dance around as if your Ferris Bueller, Duckie from Pretty in Pink, or trying to pass your mornings detention with The Breakfast Club. The King of Rock ‘N’ Roll is the perfect song to act out in the mirror as flawlessly shown in Netflix’s I Am Not Okay With This. (Side note: my favourite thing Netflix has made and it was cancelled before the second season which I will probably never get over.)
From the second it starts the song is everything you want and need from the 80’s, colour, fun and synth. So slap on your leg warmers and get ready to play on repeat so you can perfect the monologuing lyrics…

And yes, I must admit, I only knew this as ‘The Albuquerque song’ until last year. But now I know it properly for what it is. A big, big tune from one of the County Durhams best exports Prefab Sprout.
